1998 Rover Mini
I am in the USAF and when I PCS'd to Germany in June, I bought the car that I've always wanted.
I have a 1998 Rover Mini. Under the hood is a 1.3 liter (1300cc), multi-point injection, and a 4-speed manual tranny with straight cut gears.
For basic power upgrades, I've added a K&N 57i MPI Air Intake, Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs, and a carbon-fiber/stainless muffler, all of which had to be shipped from the UK.
On the inside, I have cream leather seats w/ plaid gray inserts, wood dash, and white gauges. As far as sound goes, I have installed Kenwood head unit, Kenwood 250w 6x9's, Kenwood 700w amp, and a Kenwood 1500w 12" sub.
Future plans for performance are, complete rebuild of stock motor to 1380cc, a race clutch, short shifter, 8mm race wires, adjustable lowering coil-overs, stainless header, and new exhaust from header back complete with a Stage 3 Universal STS Turbo Kit (Squires Turbo Systems http://ststurbo.com/universal_system

RE: 1998 Rover Mini
1998 Rover Mini (Part 2)
On the outside, I plan to go with performance wheels and tires, as big as possible. (Probably 13x7's or even up to 15's, depends on the amount of bodywork I wanna do.) As well as wide arches to cover the bigger wheels. A fiberglass hood, probably the Cooper S style. And, a complete repaint of the entire car to satin black.
I do like the interior now, but I'd like to add a white-face boost gauge, and new black molded carpet, with plenty of sound barrier. I'd also like to add a new shift knob and pedal covers.
Overall, I'd like a Mini that's completely different than any other I've seen. With plenty of extra power around town and on the Autobahn, as well as a competent weekend warrior.
I love this car! As a kid I always saw classic Mini's on TV and never thought I'd own one, but now I do and it's a dream come true! Kids love this car, as well as their dads, I always have people wanting to take a ride or just look at it. My favorite is the new MINI owners who stop by just to take a peek inside, or park next to me and take pictures. There's a small, close community of Mini owners here and you can always expect a wave or a smile as you buzz past each other.
Thank you for your consideration,
Mike Watson
